Hollow (original title)

Hooshyar Hamed (author)

Hallow portraits one day of a young woman who is suffering from emptiness of her life. A day that its repetitive occurrence is further emphasized with a bunch of withered flowers. Films starts with sounds of footsteps and a door that shuts and get locked mysteriously. The woman wakes up on a sofa by an annoying sound of alarm clock that seems drilling a hole into her head and forces her to repeat the boring repetition of modern life. Captured alone in cold and empty spaces in whole movie scenes, she starts her day by preparing herself to go to work. While eating breakfast at a table with empty chair in front of her, she finds that red rose in vase has withered. She takes the rose gently and put it beside other withered flowers. She leaves home and waits alone in an empty tram station and then get to her office. She tries for focus on her boring office job while getting distracted by day dreaming and staring at random object. Having finished the office day, she heads to a flower shop. Now it is time to do her important job. She buys a fresh red rose and then goes to a cafe. She tries to enjoy her afternoon cafe trip but she ends up starring at empty space in front of her eyes while leaving the rose on an empty seat. At the end of the day she goes back home passing the same empty tram station and put the rose in the empty vase. She eats her dinner at the same table and the sleeps alone on the same sofa after watching the same boring TV programs. Late at night, suddenly the door opens and her partner enters the apartment. Being busy working on his laptop while having dinner, the man notices the fresh rose in the vase. He touches it carelessly and continues his job. A reaction which reveals the secret behind the problematic relationship of this couple. A relationship of which nothing is left except a wedding ring and of course a fresh rose that could be considered as a symbol of hope. In the end, the man stands by the sofa and looks at the woman with a stone face and then goes to their bedroom. He takes his clothes off and sleeps alone on a double bed. Film ends with lights goes off and leaves the audience in hollow.
