In a small, industrial town in Northern Hungary, garages have become venues of re- bellion against the monotony of repetitive, everyday life. What stories, secrets, and lives are kept by the local folk in these garages?
Nestled in the plains of Northern Hungary is a town called Kazincbarcika, all of 60 years old, created during the period of Socialist industrialization. Here time seems to have stood still since the 70s. People mostly work in the nearby chemical factory.
Many live in rows of concrete apartment build- ings. After work, some people do sports or walk around the man-made lake. Some people go to the pubs. Others, meanwhile, retreat to their garages.
‘Garazs Inventory’ explores the lives inside a forgotten town’s garages and shows the subtle struggles in the Hungarian countryside, where, like smoke spewing out from the chemical factory, a certain atmosphere of collective resignation fills the air.
