Insomnia” is a short-story about a lonesome and isolated man who suffers from a sleeping disorder. Instead of staying at home brooding, he copes with his situation by driving aimlessly through the night as some sort of psychological escape. One night he comes across a woman who’s in trouble and ends up being dragged to a dangerous underworld.
We want to create a film that causes a visceral reaction in the spectator while at the same time being entertaining. We feel that’s the best type of experience, one that changes you, that penetrates your subjectivity.
Our film can be described as a thriller with some neo-noir elements and an arthouse aesthetic. Nicolas Winding Refn’s “Drive” and “Only God Forgives” as well as Jonathan Glazer’s “Under the Skin” count as some of our inspirations. Beyond the great attention given to the aesthetic look, we want the film to be minimalist in its approach and intend on letting the images speak for themselves.
